I am selling our beloved expedition vehicle / campervan which my husband converted from a Mercedes fire tender 5 years ago. Unfortunately my husband has recently died and I am unable to drive it.
WE have been to the Sahara and across most of Europe including skiing and have had great fun without incident. It has been well maintained because it was my husband’s pride and joy.
The truck itself is 1989 Mercedes 917 RHD with approx 211000kms on the clock. It has the good non electric 6 litre turbo engine mated to an Allison auto transmission and will cruise happily at 70 mph.
The living accommodation has been built in a bespoke refrigeration body on an aluminium chassis and includes a fixed double bed, shower, toilet and basin, full size cooker, fridge, tv, stereo, led lighting, dining table, sink and plenty of storage. It is for 2 people although we did take our 13 year old son to the Sahara. It is amazingly spacious inside.
It has solar power, air con and central heating and was built to have enough water and power to last for at least a week. It also has electric hook up facility and space for a generator but we have never had to use it. It was designed with a backup system for every eventuality. It has 2 fuel tanks and an electric pump to transfer fuel. There is also a motorbike rack, spare wheel and winch.
The gross weight is 9.5 tonnes and is classified as a campervan so cheap to insure, tax and MOT. NB Motorbike is not included in the sale.
